Coal tar shampoo

MA>  My scalp tends to be rather itchy all the time; any shampoo will
MA>  eliminate the itching for about 1 day or a bit less, and Ionil T  will
MA>  make it itch-free for about 2 days or a little less. If I switch from
MA>  Ionil T to an ordinary shampoo with neither tar nor salicylic acid,
MA>  I get a *lot* of flakes about 3 days later. (Even though I continue
MA>  shampooing every 2 days.) What else should I try?

Are you sure the problem isn’t minerals in the water supply?  If you use
only hot water, have you ever tried a final rinse with cold water (which has
less minerals in it)?  The reason I ask is because I used to live in a area
that had a high mineral content in the water and most of my "itchy scalp"
problems disappeared after I moved to a area with much better quality water
supply.  You could pick up a gallon jug of distilled water and try a final
rinse of a few cupfulls and see if it makes any difference.  If it doesn’t it
will only have cost you about a dollar to try it.
