I am hoping that maybe someone may be able to help me. i am plagued
with sinusitis and am usually miserable between october and may.
if my son gets a cold; i get a sinus infection. if my husband gets
the sniffles; i get a sinus infection. i HATE taking stuff like
sudafed because it makes my heart rev up and i become quite nervous.
a couple of solution i have tried with limited success was using
salt water and inhaling it. this does work but with the fluctuating
weather, i still get congested.
do any of you have any suggestions on how to get through this lengthy
’sinus season’ just short of moving?
thanks in advance, cindy

I am taking Beconase, which is a water-based nasal spray.
It runs about 25 $ a bottle, and the bottle lasts about 50 days.
It is prescription only, but I swear by the stuff ! I have tried
everything you can think of ( and a couple you cant, ask me about
my air filter design for the apartment sometime.. :-) ) But the
only thing which has any effect has been the Beconase spray. I live
in Austin tx, and we have a joke… If you don’t have an allergy
when you move here, you will when you move away…
You might look into it. My life has been bliss since starting this
stuff.
This ain’t no commercial… I am just a student. EE at that…

I get the same seasonal sinusitus (this is the worst year ever).
Beconase
is the only thing that seems to help, and I have tried every medicine
you
can think of. It’s not a natural cure ( it contains steroids ), but the
literature claims that it’s pretty harmless since it’s in topical form.
I’d die without it.

Regarding "natural ways" of controlling sinusitis, I can recommend
accupressure (sp?). I had big problems with sinusitis during my teens,
fortunately it looks like I’ve grown out of them
But when it was really bad, my doctor showed me which spots (in the
face and on the hands) to massage, it doesn’t do miracles but it usually
gives some relief immediately and it has no side effects.
Second, the same doctor prescibed a medication called Sinupret which I’ve
been taking since then (almost 20) years whenever I get Sinus problems
(as I said, not very frequently anymore the last couple years). It’s also
rather "natural" stuff, not at all like Sudafed for example (I once took
Sudafed while I was in the U.S. and told a German doctor about it later,
he highly recommended NOT to take that stuff).
Since Sinupret is a German product (manufactured by BIONORICA, Nuernberg)
I give you a list of ingredients (maybe you can find something similar in the
U.S.) :
Radix Gentianae 6mg
Flores Primulae cum Calycibus 18mg
Herba Rumicis var. 18mg
Flores Sambuci 18mg
Herba Verbenae 18mg
From what I remember from the Latin I took several years ago, those are all
herbs, flowers and roots (quite natural, isn’t it ?).
